A Typical Monday

Today I'll be posting periodic updates to give you a sense of what a 'typical' homeschooling day is like for me.

Typical is definitely not the word. I'm way to spastic for anything to be routine.

2:10am (yes that's am) I stumble into the crying baby's room and I'm taken aback by the time on the clock. This hasn't happened in ages. Apparently my spasticity rubs off on my children. I decide to just give one side and hope for the best.

5:00am (I think) While I'm not thrilled to be up again, this is closer to the normal early morning feed. I still just give one side. I hear my husband leave for work while I sit in the dark drifting in and out of dreaming scenes from North & South.

5:30am I head back to bed wondering if I should just get up. I'm really tired, and the kids went down late last night, so I decide to gamble on them sleeping in.

5:45am I hear my three-year-old. I tell her to be quiet, hoping she puts herself back to sleep. I've lost my gamble; she is up way too early. I'm fairly certain she won't go back to sleep either.

6:45am Fifteen minutes later than our normal waking time, I hear my son get up and 'go to the bathroom'. Not surprisingly, it wakes the baby. I drag myself out of bed.

9:00am I get the kids their morning snack. I come on here to begin posting about our day. Everyone is now dressed, beds are made, teeth are brushed, hair is combed, breakfast and coffee have been consumed, vitamins have been taken. The baby has been fed and nursed. I think the baby is ready for her morning nap. Then we'll begin school.

And we've only just begun...

9:30am My son is reading a book - really reading it - to his sister, so I decide to delay the beginning of school.

9:45am We begin our lessons...

10:50am I decide to take a break. So far we've completed our
Opening
Bible
Phonics and Readers
Language
Penmanship

In about 15 mintues I'll move us along to finish math and read a book.

11:30am School is done, the baby is up. I'll feed her and then we'll have lunch.

1:30pm I have no idea what I've done for the last two hours. I really don't.

2:45pm My three-year-old is up from her nap. The baby is down for her nap. I'm walking in circles all over the house putting stuff away. I feel like a dog chasing its tail. I wanted to vacuum, but the naps interfered. Maybe when the baby wakes up? I'll have four loads of laundry to fold this evening. I wonder how I can creatively avoid that? :)

4:30pm We have dinner.

5:00pm I start vacuuming.

7:30pm All the kids are in bed. They are not asleep, but they are tucked in. I'm going to get ready for tomorrow (or maybe waste all my time in front of the television).

The day is done
They say goodnight
And somebody turns off the light
